Rain-Thirst-and-Longing (2011-2013)
The works seek to capture the 'decisive moment' in it,
after which nothing will return to what it was.
The works deal with questions of place, the constant search for a home, identity, displacement
and return, the trauma that occurs in that crucial moment, which is not always clear if it
has already occurred or is about to happen at any given moment.
As in previous series, Mazliah is influenced by cinematic concepts in which he,
like a cinematic otter, formulates a system of internal connections that creates a world
in which all parts obey the same internal system.
The works revolve around the same recurring elements,
like a dream that is dreamed up night after night.
The paintings present in varying hierarchies:
a house, a landscape, a figure or a portrait that mix with each other into a distorted,
reality that challenges the existing and comfortable order
and produces a disturbing and charged position.
